CARIRIS (pronounced “cah-ree-ress”) is the name of the indigenous Indians from the northeast region of Brazil. Fortaleza is the capital; a legendary coastal metropolis renowned for its stunning climate with year-round beach tanning (hot and dry in the Northern winter), tropical sea breezes, surfing, sailing, beach bars, nightclubs, music festivals and yachting regattas to make this one of Brazil’s best kept secrets for intrepid travelers.

The CARIRIS rubber sandal factory was founded in 1963, named in homage to the origins of their land and catering to the new tribes flocking to Fortaleza’s beaches to worship the sun. Almost five decades on and CARIRIS is still a family-owned business making 100% Brazilian rubber flip flops.

Why is this so special? Today there are thousands of sports and fashion flip flops on the market but almost all of these brands are manufactured in Asia from EVA or PVC plastic.
